| It may improve the design of mathematical procedures called error-correcting codes used in computers to interpret noisy data. The Princeton team concluded that the bit error rates it was able to produce are still well within the range of error-correcting codes, and therefore that the Sarnoff algorithm is quite suitable for forensic applications. Called error-correcting codes, these underlie a host of systems for digital communication and data storage, including cell phones, the Internet, and compact disks. |
