Esher and Molesey (ē`shər, mōl`zē), town (1991 pop. 46,688), Surrey, SE England. It is largely a residential suburb of London with some light engineering. Wolsey's Tower (a gatehouse), is in the district; it is the remnant of Esher Place, which was founded by William Waynflete Waynflete, William , 1395?–1486, English prelate and lord chancellor. He was master of Winchester College before 1429, and in 1443 he became provost of the newly founded Eton College. In 1447 he became bishop of Winchester.
