Essbase
A leading decision support tool originally from Hyperion that is optimized for business planning, analysis and management reporting. It provides an OLAP server that runs on Windows NT, OS/2, AS/400 and major Unix platforms and supports Windows, Mac and Unix clients. Data can be extracted from a variety of databases, data warehouses and spreadsheets into Essbase applications. Spreadsheet plug-ins for Lotus 1-2-3 and Excel are available, and the Application Manager is a Windows-based program for building analytical models and providing system management and data loading. As of 2007, Essbase belonged to Oracle, which acquired Hyperion that year.

Hyperion has brought out Essbase 7X, what the company calls a far more robust and scalable application for performing analytics on both financials and line-of-business data within a single architecture.
Customers can leverage Hyperion Essbase OLAP Server, coupled with the significant performance enhancements in the RS/6000 S80 and the workload management improvements in AIX, to drive a broad range of analytic applications in areas such as e-business analytics, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) analytics and Enterprise Performance Management (EPM).
Delivering on a previously-announced strategy, Hyperion Solutions Inc, the company formed by the merger of Arbor Software with Hyperion Software in August (CI No 3,481), said yesterday it has integrated its Hyperion analysis and reporting tools with Arbor's Essbase OLAP server.
