Etheridge, Anna

Etheridge, Anna (1844–?) nurse; born in Wisconsin. A visitor in Detroit when the Civil War commenced, she enlisted as an army nurse with a Michigan unit and tended Michigan regiments throughout the entire conflict. She came to be known as "Michigan Annie" and "Gentle Anna," was once wounded, and earned the Kearny Cross for bravery. After the war she worked in a federal government office.
