The molecules, ethyl formate and n-propyl cyanide, were detected in the star-forming region of space known as Sagittarius B2 and represent two different types of molecule - the esters and alkyl cyanides - which were found in a giant dust cloud at the heart of our galaxy.
Curiously, ethyl formate has another distinguishing characteristic: it also smells of rum.
Byline: ANI Berlin, April 21 (ANI): Scientists from the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy in Bonn, Germany, Cornell University, USA, and the University of Cologne, Germany, have detected two of the most complex molecules yet discovered in interstellar space: ethyl formate and n-propyl cyanide.
