European Mudminnow
(Umbra krameri), a fish of the family Umbridae. The European mudminnow measures approximately 10 cm in length and weighs approximately 30 g. Its dorsal side is reddish brown. The fish is found in the Danube and Dnestr rivers and in bodies of water with little current. When faced with danger, the fish burrow into the ground. They spawn in March and April. The female deposits more than 150 eggs in hollows and guards them. The European mudminnow feeds on fish larvae and small invertebrates. It is sometimes kept in aquariums.
