Euthymius the Hagiorite
(in Russian, Evfimii Afonskii, “Euthymius of Athos”). Born circa 955; died 1028. Georgian ecclesiastical writer and translator. The founder of the Iberian monastery at Mount Athos, Euthymius played a prominent role in the history of Georgian literature. Taken to Byzantium in his childhood, he studied Greek and later translated from Georgian into Greek the Tale of Barlaam and Josephat and the martyrological work the Abu Kurra.
