Evdokimov, Aleksandr Ivanovich 

Born Nov. 26 (Dec. 8), 1883, in the village of Novaia Slobodka, in presentday Kursk Oblast. Soviet stomatologist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR (1957). Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1956). Hero of Socialist Labor (1963). Member of the CPSU since 1944.

Evdokimov graduated from the medical department of the University of Voronezh in 1919. From 1922 to 1930 he was director of the State Institute of Stomatology and Odontology; from 1930 to 1932, head of the subdepartment of stomatology of the Central Institute for the Advanced Training of Physicians; from 1933 to 1934, head of the subdepartment of stomatology of the Voronezh Medical Institute; and from 1934 to 1938, head of the subdepartment of stomatology of the Second Moscow Medical Institute. From 1938 to 1963 he was head of the subdepartment of surgical stomatology at the Moscow Medical Stomatological Institute (director from 1943 to 1950). From 1963 to 1968 he was the assistant director of the scientific division of the Central Scientific Research Institute of Stomatology. His principal works have been devoted to the pathogenesis and treatment of periodontosis, inflammation of the jaw and facial areas, and traumatology and restorative surgery of the face and jaws. He founded a school of stomatologists. He has been awarded three Orders of Lenin and various medals.
