Evfrosiniia Andreevna Staritskaia
Date of birth unknown: died Oct. 15, 1569. Russian political figure. Born a princess Khovanskaia. In March 1553, while Tsar Ivan IV was seriously ill, she actively sought the boyars’ support for the recognition of her son Prince Vladimir Andreevich as heir to the throne. In 1563 she was forced to take the veil under the name Evdokiia and was exiled to the Goritsy Voskresenskii Convent, charged with “evil deeds” against Ivan IV. She and Vladimir Andreevich were put to death simultaneously. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
