Exmouth (ĕk`sməth, –smouth), town (1991 pop. 28,037), Devon, SW England, at the mouth of the Exe River. It is a port and a popular summer resort. In 1347, Exmouth provided 10 ships for the siege of Calais Calais , city (1990 pop. 78,836), Pas-de-Calais dept., N France, in Picardy, on the Straits of Dover. An industrial center with a great variety of manufactures, it has been a major commercial seaport and a communications center with England since the Middle Ages.
