Population, including the related Nyamwanga, Membwe, Rungu, and other tribes, totals more than 120,000 in Tanzania and more than 25,000 in Zambia (1967, estimate). The Fipa language belongs to the eastern Bantu language group. Most of the Fipa are Christians; some of them preserve the local traditional beliefs.
