Fipa
(Wafipa), a people living in southern Tanzania and also in the border regions of Zambia. Population, including the related Nyamwanga, Membwe, Rungu, and other tribes, totals more than 120,000 in Tanzania and more than 25,000 in Zambia (1967, estimate). The Fipa language belongs to the eastern Bantu language group. Most of the Fipa are Christians; some of them preserve the local traditional beliefs. The chief occupation of the population is hoe farming (millet, sorghum, and beans); goats, sheep, chickens and, in some areas, cattle are also raised. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
