FOAF - [Usenet] Friend Of A Friend. The source of an unverified, possibly untrue story. This term was not originated by hackers (it is used in Jan Brunvand's books on urban folklore), but is much better recognised on Usenet and elsewhere than in mainstream English.

Naveed Qamar observed that FoFs expertise could be of much value for deeper insight into issues pertaining to constitutional matters relating to federalism; its strengths and limits, distribution of powers, fiscal redistribution of the wealth of constituent units and the design and underlying principles for such transfer arrangements.
This represented an annual FOF attrition rate of over eight per cent, nearly double the previous record set in Q4 2008.
