Faber, Johannes (yōhä`nəs fä`bər), 1478–1541, German churchman. His German surname was Heigerlin. He was a Dominican. After 1531 he was bishop of Vienna. Faber was friendly at first (until 1521) with Martin Luther and Huldreich Zwingli, but later he became their untiring opponent in polemics. He was, nevertheless, an ardent advocate of reform of clerical discipline and of preaching, especially with respect to indulgences.
