Terlemezian, Fanos Pogosovich
Born Mar. 11, 1865, in Van, Turkey; died Apr. 30, 1941, in Yerevan. Soviet painter. People’s Artist of the Armenian SSR (1935). Terlemezian studied at the school of the Society for the Promotion of the Arts in St. Petersburg from 1895 to 1897 and at the Académie Julien in Paris from 1899 to 1904. He was a member of the Armenian branch of the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia. Terlemezian was influenced by impressionism. He painted mostly landscapes marked by subtle chiaroscuro effects and a rather subdued palette, for example, a series of industrial landscapes executed between 1929 and 1931 (Armenian Art Gallery, Yerevan).
