Fan Si Pan

Fan Si Pan (fäN sē päN), peak, 10,312 ft (3,143 m) high, on the divide between the Red and Black rivers, NW Vietnam, near the Chinese border. It is the highest point in Vietnam.
Fan Si Pan 

a mountain massif in northwestern Vietnam; part of the Hoang Lien Son Range. The massif rises to a maximum elevation of 3,143 m. It is composed primarily of quartzites, granites, and gneisses. The steep slopes are deeply cut by gorges, and the crests are pointed. The slopes have evergreen forests and, above 1,700–1,800 m, deciduous and coniferous forests.

I had read someone else's blog about their trip up Fansipan and they had eaten rice, noodles and an increasingly rancid piece of pork for 4 days.
Far away, the top of Fansipan Mountain is lost in the thick white clouds and the valley below is engulfed in a thin, still mist.
Capt Lloyd admitted he didn't know Mount Fansipan before the party set out on July 30.
