Farrell, city (1990 pop. 6,841), Mercer co., W central Pa., on the Shenango River at the Ohio line and adjoining Sharon, Pa.; inc. 1901. It is a railroad center, and its steel- and ironworks industries have declined. Farrell 1. Colin (James). born 1976, Irish film actor; he appeared in the TV series Ballykissangel before starring in the films Tigerland (2000), Minority Report (2002), and Alexander (2004). 2. J(ames) G(ordon) 1935--79, British novelist: author of Troubles (1970), The Siege of Krishnapur (1973), and The Singapore Grip (1978) 3. James T(homas) 1904--79, US writer.
