On the central southern border of MN, south of Mankato; established Feb 20, 1855 (prior to statehood) from Blue Earth County. Name Origin: For Jean Baptiste Faribault (1774-1860), a French-Canadian fur trader in the Northwest Territory who had great influence with the Sioux.
