Kodok (kō`dŏk), formerly Fashoda (fəshō`də), town, SE Sudan, on the White Nile. In 1898 it was the scene of the Fashoda Incident, which brought Britain and France to the brink of war and resulted, in 1899, in an Anglo-French agreement establishing the frontier between Sudan and the French Congo along the watershed between the Congo and Nile basins. The formation of an Anglo-French entente in 1904 prompted the British to change the town's name in hopes of obliterating the memory of the incident. How to thank TFD for its existence?
