Fazylova, Tufa Fazylovna 

Born Apr. 25, 1917, in Kanibadam. Soviet Tadzhik actress and singer (soprano). People’s Artist of the USSR (1957). Member of the CPSU since 1941.

In 1930, Fazylova became a singer in the Kanibadam Musical Drama Theater. She later worked in Dushanbe, appearing at the Tadzhik Musical Theater (1934–40), the Aini Tadzhik Theater of Opera and Ballet (1940–48), and the Lakhuti Drama Theater (from 1948). Her opera roles included Gulizor and Nushofarin in Balasanian’s The Uprising at Vosse and The Blacksmith Kova, Tat’iana in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Zukhra in Lenskii’s Takhir and Zukhra, and Marfa in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tsar’s Bride. Her major roles as an actress included Guli in Uigun and Sultanov’s Alisher Navoi, Gul’nor in Ikrami’s Dokhunda, and Goneril in Shakespeare’s King Lear. Fazylova still sings on the variety stage. She has also appeared in films.

Fazylova has been awarded the Order of Lenin, two other orders, and various medals.
