Tokyo, Japan, Feb 8, 2006 - (JCN) - Wako Pure Chemical Industries has launched a new fully automated fecal occult blood analyzer, FOBITWAKO, across Japan. To screen for colon and rectal cancer, the American Cancer Society recommends that men and women ages 50 and older undergo either a fecal occult blood test yearly and a flexible sigmoidoscopy every five years; or a colonoscopy or double-contrast barium enema every five to 10 years. And 30 percent of doctors said they would recommend using another screening exam - fecal occult blood test - in terminally ill patients who most likely would not benefit from the test, according to findings published in the current issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine. |
