Largely a kind of institutional history that focuses on the Federal Arts Project (FAP) of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) and the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), Saab argues that the visual arts underwent a "desacralization" during this period, by which she means that artists, politicians, and arts' bureaucrats moved to remove (or at least burnish) the halo of genius around artists and their artworks.
The section runs along 35th and State streets and has been restored by a $10 million city, state and federal arts project.
