Fedor Alekseevich Koni

Koni, Fedor Alekseevich 

Born Mar. 9 (21), 1809, in Moscow; died Jan. 25 (Feb. 6), 1879, in St. Petersburg. Russian author and man of the theater.

In the 1830’s, Koni translated and adapted foreign plays for the Russian stage. His vaudeville shows of the 1840’s and 1850’s, including. St. Petersburg Apartments, The Titular Councillor, and Misfortune From Sentiment and Woe From Wit, were written in the spirit of the natural school. From 1840 to 1856, Koni issued the journal Repertuar i Panteon, which was also published under the titles Repertuar russkoga teatra and Panteon. He was the author of The Russian Theater: Its Fate and Its Historians (1864).
