Fedor Vitram

Vitram, Fedor Fedorovich 

Born Sept. 17 (29), 1854, in Riga; died 1914, in St. Petersburg. Russian astronomer and geodesist.

Vitram was an astronomer at the Pulkovo Observatory (from 1878) and a professor in the department of geodesy of the Academy of the General Staff (from 1887). He determined the differences in longitude between Arkhangel’sk and Pulkovo and Pulkovo and Potsdam and conducted leveling work between Kronstadt and St. Petersburg. Vitram took part in the interpretation of degree measurements taken on Spitzbergen and in expeditions for observing the total solar eclipses of 1896, 1907, 1912, and 1914.
