Fedorov, Evgenii Petrovich 

Born Dec. 15 (28), 1911, in Strel’na, now under the jurisdiction of the Leningrad city soviet. Twice Hero of the Soviet Union (Apr. 7, 1940, and June 29, 1945). Major general of aviation (1957). Member of the CPSU since 1932.

Fedorov joined the Soviet Army in 1930. In 1933 he graduated from a military pilots’ school in Orenburg, and in 1948, from the Air Force Academy. During the Soviet-Finnish War of 1939–40, he was a squadron commander in bomber aviation and flew 24 combat missions. During the Great Patriotic War of 1941–45, he first served as a squadron commander in the 98th Long-Range Bomber Regiment and the 750th (later 3rd Guards) Aviation Regiment. In 1943 he was appointed deputy commander of the 2nd Long-Range Bomber Aviation Division. Fedorov took part in the battles of Moscow, Leningrad, and Stalingrad, in the liberation of Poland and Hungary, and in the capture of Berlin, flying a total of 178 combat missions. After the war he held command positions at higher military educational institutions and in the standing army. He entered the reserves in 1958.

Fedorov has been awarded three Orders of Lenin, two Orders of the Red Banner, the Order of Alexander Nevsky, two Orders of the Red Star, and various medals. A monument including a bust of Fedorov has been erected in Leningrad.
