Feldkirch (fĕlt`kĭrkh'), town (1991 pop. 25,959), in Voralberg, extreme W Austria, near the Rhine River and the Swiss and Liechtenstein borders; founded c.1190. There are textile mills and breweries in the town. Noteworthy buildings include the town hall and the Gothic Church of St. Nicholas (both 15th cent.). |

The bishop of Sankt Polten diocese, Kurt Krenn, refused to believe it but the Vatican did: it immediately appointed Bishop Kung, the Ordinary of the Austrian diocese of Feldkirch, with plenipotentiary powers to take action. The radiation oncology department at Landeskrankenhaus Feldkirch is offering high level radiation therapy for about 1,000 patients annually. |
