Šišić, Ferdo

Born Mar. 9, 1869, in Vinkovci; died Jan. 21, 1940, in Zagreb. Croatian historian. Academician of the Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts (1910).

Šišić studied at the universities of Zagreb and Vienna; he received the degree of doctor of philosophy in 1900. From 1906 to 1939 he was a professor of national history at the University of Zagreb. Šišić was a member of the alliance of bourgeois liberal parties known as the Croat-Serbian Coalition, which was established in 1905. He was elected a deputy to the Croatian Diet in 1908 and a delegate to the Hungarian-Croatian Sabor in 1910; in 1911 he withdrew from political life. Šišić wrote many works on the history of Croatia and published various historical sources, including the Chronicle of Father Dukljanin in 1928.
