Feshbach resonance [′fesh‚bäk ‚rez·ən·əns] (quantum mechanics) A sharp resonance or peak which is seen when the cross section of an atomic or nuclear scattering process is plotted as a function of energy. It is associated with an energy threshold above which the scattering process can lead to a new result (such as excitation or ionization of one of the colliding objects), and it lies at an energy slightly below this threshold.
