Filter Well

 

a drainage device in the form of a borehole equipped with a filter and drilled from the surface of the ground to an underground mining excavation. Water entering the filter well flows to the excavation by gravity, enters a drainage ditch or a collector pipe, and flows into the mine’s catchment area. Filter wells are used to drain mine shafts and quarries.
