Finger Lakes, group of 11 narrow glacial lakes in north to south valleys, W central N.Y. Cayuga Cayuga Lake , 38 mi (61 km) long and 1 to 3.5 mi (1.6–5.6 km) wide, W central N.Y.; longest of the Finger Lakes. It is connected by the Seneca-Cayuga Canal to the New York State Canal System. Cornell Univ. and Wells College overlook Cayuga's clifflike banks.

Finger Lakes

Group of narrow, glacial lakes, western New York state, U.S. They lie in north-to-south valleys between Syracuse and Geneseo. The region, which embraces more than 20 state parks, is noted for its scenery, has many resorts, and produces fruits (especially grapes) and vegetables. Seneca Lake, the largest in the group, is 67 sq mi (174 sq km).
