Control over the direction, volume, and time of fire of guns or launchers by the use of certain electrical or electronic devices or aids, or by optical or mechanical systems.

Limitation of the size of a fire by (a) distributing water so as to decrease the rate of heat release, (b) pre-wetting of adjacent combustibles, and (c) controlling the gas temperature of the ceiling to avoid structural damage.

Fire Control 

all actions taken by commanders and staffs to ensure the effective delivery of fire from various types of weapons. Fire control includes the use of target reconnaissance data, the selection of means and methods for executing fire missions, the formulation of missions for subunits, the preliminary preparation of fire and the establishment of initial settings for weapons, checks on the readiness of subunits to perform fire missions, the correction of fire, the maneuvering of fire, and the monitoring of results.
