First Missouri State Capitol State Historic Site Location: In the Saint Charles Historic District in Saint Charles County (5th Street exit north off I-70, then right on Booneslick and left on Main Street). Facilities: Historic site, interpretive center. Activities: Tours. Special Features: Missouri's first legislators met in this restored Federal-style row building to reorganize Missouri's territorial government into a state system. Sessions were held June 4, 1821, through October 1, 1826, when the new capitol in Jefferson City became ready for use. Governmental chambers, two residences, a general store, and a carpenter shop have been restored to their 1820s appearance.
