Fisher, Clarence Stanley (1876–1941) archaeologist; born in Philadelphia. A trained architect, Fisher turned to archaeology after accompanying expeditions to Nippur (1898–1900) and Samaria (1908–10). He stayed in the Middle East directing digs and teaching at the American School of Oriental Research, Jerusalem (1925–41). Best known for his Palestinian excavations, Fisher published important reports on Nippur (1905–6), Samaria (1924), and Armageddon (1929).
