Fishtrap Lake State Park Location: 7 miles south of Pikeville. Facilities: Group and individual picnic sites, shelters, basketball court. Activities: Fishing, picnicking. Special Features: The man-made Fishtrap Lake was created during the 1960s to help control flooding along the Ohio and Big Sandy Rivers. The park is situated among mountains and dense forests, and the natural protection of the area drew early settlers of all types here, including Kentucky pioneers as well as Native Americans. Throughout years of periodic excavation, more than 65,000 relics from early inhabitants have been found.
