operations on semifinished and finished articles, usually made of metal. Such work is carried out manually using fitting and assembly tools, attachments, and machine tools. Fitting work includes laying out, various cutting operations, filing, threading, bending and straightening, lapping, drilling, countersinking, reaming, riveting, and soldering. It is carried out mostly as part of the assembly of machines in industrial enterprises and as part of the repair, assembly, and adjustment work done on machines and their subassemblies in repair shops. Sometimes repair, assembly, and adjustment work is done on machines at the locations where they are operated.
