Flémal, Bertholet (bĕrtōlĕ` flāmäl`), 1614–75, Flemish painter of mythological and religious subjects. He went to Italy in 1638 and worked in Florence for the Grand Duke Ferdinand III. Returning to Paris, he was commissioned to decorate one of the galleries at Versailles. He did paintings in a classical style for many churches in his native Liège. Among his few surviving works are Death of Lucretia (Kassel) and Mysteries of the Old and New Testaments (Louvre). His name is also spelled Flémalle and Flamaël. How to thank TFD for its existence?
