Flannery, Kent V. (Vaughn) (1934– ) anthropologist, archaeologist; born in Philadelphia. An expert on prehistoric human ecology and cultural evolution, he joined the University of Michigan faculty (1967). Flannery is known for describing what he calls the "broad-spectrum revolution," the shift from hunting and gathering to the exploitation of wild resources. His publications include The Early Mesoamerican Village (1976).
