Size: 2,300,000 acres.
Location:Northwestern Montana. Accessible by US 2 and 93; MT 35. Nearby cities/towns include Columbia Falls, Kalispell, and Whitefish.
Facilities:11 cabins, 34 campgrounds, dispersed camping, picnic sites, trails (2,600 miles), ski areas.
Activities:Camping, hunting, fishing, boating, canoeing, rafting, swimming, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, cross-country and downhill skiing, huckleberry picking.
Special Features:Second largest national forest outside of Alaska, Flathead lands include large parcels designated as wilderness areas: Bob Marshall (1,009,356 acres), Great Bear (285,771 acres), and Mission Mountain (74,000 acres). Attractions include Big Mountain ski and summer resort, Blacktail Ski area, and the Swan and Flathead mountain ranges. Wildlife seen at the time of Lewis and Clark's exploration are all still present today on forest lands.
