Velsen (vĕl`sən), city (1994 pop. 63,617), North Holland prov., W Netherlands, near the mouth of the North Sea Canal. It includes the port of IJmuiden IJmuiden , city (1991 est. pop. 58,000), North Holland prov., W Netherlands, on the North Sea. It is part of the municipality of Velsen. The city is a seaport, fishing, and industrial center at the end of the North Sea Canal.
