    0.01 sec.
Florensov, Nikolai Aleksandrovich

Born Jan. 15 (28), 1909, in Kiev. Soviet geologist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1960).

Florensov graduated from the University of Irkutsk in 1936. His main works deal with the geology, geomorphology, seismology, and minerals of Eastern Siberia. Florensov was the first to substantiate the possible coal reserves of the Gusinoozersk coal deposit in Transbaikalia and determined the prospects of the Botogol’skii graphite deposit in the Vostochnyi Saian. Florensov contributed to the development of neotectonics by establishing the rift nature of the system of depressions of the Lake Baikal type in Southeastern Siberia and Northern Mongolia. He also proposed a paleoseismogeological approach to evaluation of the present-day level of seismic activity and developed new concepts in geomorphology, such as the structure, formation, and age of topography. Florensov has been awarded three orders and various medals.
