Established: Authorized on August 20, 1969. Location: 35 miles west of Colorado Springs, Colorado. From north/south on I-25, take US 24 west 35 miles to town of Florissant, then follow signs 2 miles south to the visitor center. Facilities: Picnic area, rest rooms (é), visitor center (é), museum/exhibit, self-guided tour/trail. Entrance fee required. Activities: Hiking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, guided tours, interpretive programs. Special Features: A wealth of fossil insects, seeds, and leaves of the Oligocene Period are preserved here in remarkable detail.
