Floristics

the branch of botany that studies and describes aggregates of plant species (floras) on the earth as a whole and in specific regions. The primary task of floristics is the inventory of the species making up particular floras. Floras of various countries, botanicogeographical regions, provinces, or other types of areas may be inventoried. Analysis of floras may have special goals, such as determination of the number of beneficial species (for example, medicinal and culinary plants). In Russian the term floristica is often used to designate descriptive treatises on floras.
