flow coefficient [¦flō ‚kō·i′fish·ənt]
(fluid mechanics)
An experimentally determined proportionality constant, relating the actual velocity of fluid flow in a pipe, duct, or open channel to the theoretical velocity expected under certain assumptions.
(mechanical engineering)
A dimensionless number used in studying the power required by fans, equal to the volumetric flow rate through the fan divided by the product of the rate of rotation of the fan and the cube of the impeller diameter.
