(civil engineering) A municipal or industrial wastewater discharge through a discrete pipe or channel. (physics) A source of radiation having definite position but no extension in space; this is an ideal which is a good approximation for distances from the source sufficiently large compared to the dimensions of the source. point source A light source whose dimensions are insignificant compared with the distance at which it is used; e.g., a fluorescent lamp is a point source when viewed from a large distance but a line source when viewed close to the source.
