Fomin, Vladimir Vladimirovich
Born Jan. 12 (25), 1909, in the village of Damuraty, now in Poland. Soviet chemist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1964). Member of the CPSU since 1947. After graduating from the Institute of Social Upbringing in Nezhin in 1931, Fomin taught in secondary schools until 1938. From 1943 to 1948 he taught at Moscow State University. In 1948 he began working at the Scientific Research Institute of Inorganic Materials. Fomin’s principal works deal with the formation of complexes, extraction (particularly extraction equilibria), kinetics, and the chemistry of radioactive elements.
