In 1995, another investigator noticed foot bones of the australopithecine in a box holding various fossils recovered in the 1970s at Sterkfontein cave, just north of Johannesburg. Examinations of her thigh, shin, and foot bones indicate that Selam walked upright on two legs. Then, this year, he led the recovery of a fossilized mammoth in Moorpark and later the tusk and foot bones of a mastodon. |
