In north-central GA, northeast of Atlanta; organized Dec 3, 1832 from Cherokee County. Name Origin: For John Forsyth (1780-1841), governor of GA (1827-29) and U.S. secretary of state (1834-41).

Area (sq mi): 247.37 (land 225.80; water 21.57). Pop per sq mi: 621.80.
Pop 2005: 140,393. State rank: 13. Pop change: 2000-20005 42.70%; 1990-2000 123.20%. Pop 2000: 98,407 (White 92.30%; Black or African American 0.70%; Hispanic or Latino 5.60%; Asian 0.80%; Other 3.50%). Foreign born: 6.00%. Median age: 34.60.

In north-central NC, west of Greensboro; organized Jan 6, 1849 from Stokes County. Name Origin: For Col. Benjamin Forsyth (c.1760-1814), NC legislator and army officer killed during the War of 1812.

    To increase awareness of the sexually transmitted disease among county residents and encourage them to get tested, officials at the Forsyth County Department of Public Health took to the streets, mounting a massive door-to-door outreach.
    Not only did the Twin City end up with the headquarters of a Fortune 500 company, the move hinted at stability for the apparel maker's 4,900 employees in Forsyth County.
    Two weeks ago, the $6 million Forsyth County Employees' CU in Winston-Salem, its newest affiliate, saw the opening of a new branch April 14 and a grand opening planned for May 22.
