Fort Dummer State Park Location: In the Connecticut River Valley, just outside of Brattleboro. Facilities: 61 campsites (10 with lean-tos), hot showers, flush toilets, picnic area, hiking trails. Activities: Camping, hiking. Special Features: Park was named for Fort Dummer, the first permanent English settlement in Vermont. The remains of the fort lie underwater, flooded when the Vernon Dam was built on the Connecticut River in 1908.
