Established: Established on October 27, 1972. Designated a Biosphere Reserve in 1988.
Location: Encompasses shoreline area of San Francisco, Marin, and San Mateo counties in California. Accessible by Highways 1, 101, 880, and 280.
Facilities: Campgrounds (é), picnic area, rest rooms (é), restaurant/snacks, bicycle trail, bathhouse, visitor centers (é), museum/exhibit, self-guided tour/trail.
Activities: Camping, hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, swimming, fishing, auto touring, interpretive programs.
Special Features: Featuring 28 miles of coastline, the largest urban national park in the world includes ocean beaches, redwood forest, lagoons, marshes, military properties, a cultural center at Fort Mason, and Alcatraz Island.
