Fort Griswold Battlefield State Park Location: 2 miles from Clarence B Sharp Highway exit off I-95 at 57 Fort Street in Groton. Facilities: Revolutionary War museum, picnic tables, portable toilets (é). Special Features: Historic site where, on September 6, 1781, the British forces commanded by Benedict Arnold captured the Fort and massacred 88 of the 165 defenders stationed there. The home that sheltered the wounded after the battle, the Ebenezer Avery House, has been restored on park grounds.
