Location: Fort Moultrie is administered as part of Fort Sumter National Monument (see separate entry for description). It is located on Sullivans Island, South Carolina. From Charleston, take US 17 (business) to Mount Pleasant and turn right on SC 703. Facilities: Rest rooms, visitor center, exhibits. Entrance fee required. Activities: Self-guided tours, ranger-led programs. Special Features: Fort Moultrie's history covers 171 years of seacoast defense, including the first decisive victory in the American Revolution and the firing onto Fort Sumter during the first battle of the Civil War.
